LANDSCAPING UPDATE

29 May 2024

Following a number of queries on our ecological works, please see below for a full overview of planned landscaping works submitted as part of our planning application. In order to facilitate this landscaping, a comprehensive package of ecological mitigation and enhancement measures has been agreed with Chichester District Council. These documents can be found on the Chichester District Council planning portal.

LANDSCAPING UPDATE

ECOLOGY WORKS UPDATE

21 May 2024

Clearance of smaller trees, bushes and brambles has now begun. Our ecologists have been reviewing the site in recent weeks and are on-site to ensure that any nesting birds are not disturbed. Signage is in place to advise the location of works.

This includes clearance of the land behind the Old Coach and Horses, which starts today. As part of our development plans, this area will be landscaped, including a bund. Our plans for the overall site include the planting of more than 40,000 trees and bushes from a range of native British and local species.

IMPROVEMENTS TO THE HOME OF ROLLS-ROYCE

13 May 2024

You may have noticed some recent improvements to the area near to the Home of Rolls-Royce client entrance, at The Drive. Our Community Liaison Officer, Susan Nel, engaged with West Sussex County Council (WSCC) and the Highways team, who have been busy painting the lamp posts. Further improvements are being planned with WSCC and we will report on these in due course. If you have any queries about the works going on around our site, please do get in touch.

ECOLOGISTS ON PLANNED EXTENSION SITE

You may have seen a number of our colleagues on site wearing hi-vis jackets. These are members of our ecology team, who are working in preparation for the start of site clearance. Further details to follow soon.


UPDATED HERAS FENCE COVERS

Following the conclusion of the Archaeological Survey, we have now replaced our fence covers.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY CONCLUDED

25 April 2024

The archaeological survey on the proposed site extension land is now complete. Our colleagues at Oxford Archaeology are working on the examination of the findings, which we plan to display later this year. Full details to follow.


BROKEN SOUTHERN FOOTPATH (FP417) GATE

22 April 2024

It has been noted that the gate at the southern entrance to FP417 has been damaged. We are working to fix this as quickly as possible.


SITE UPDATE

5 April 2024

This week, we completed the installation of the temporary reptile fencing, which are a precautionary measure to protect reptiles on the site, ensuring that seasonal species constraints are adhered to. Public signs have been attached to the fencing where appropriate.

We can also confirm that the work to clear a small number of trees and vegetation is now underway. This will allow the new site entrance to be created, while also ensuring nesting birds are not disturbed as we head into spring.

FOOTPATH 417 NOW REOPENED

We have been informed by SSEN that, following the conclusion of the recent emergency power works, Footpath 417 has now been reopened to the public.


Reptile Fencing

20 March 2024

We are installing temporary reptile fencing at the south corner of the proposed extension site. These works are a precautionary measure to protect reptiles on the site, ensuring that seasonal species constraints are adhered to, should planning permission be granted. These reptile fences are temporary, and are being installed under supervision of an ecologist to support the planning application.

Footpath 417 Closed For Emergency Power Works

We have been advised by SSEN that, following power outages last week, Footpath 417 has been closed for emergency power works.

Works are currently scheduled to be completed by Thursday 29 March. If you have any queries, please visit the SSEN Contact Centre.

In liaison with the CDC Archaeology Officer as part of our Planning Application, a follow-up archaeological survey is currently taking place on our proposed extension land, lasting approximately five months.
We are discussing the potential for a public display of any findings with the survey supplier.
